Good Friday

I have no photos for this blog and don't usually try to put my views on anybody but I just had to share today with some of those who have become my blogging friends over this last week .. when I have discovered meeting new friends

This morning my cousin and I took my uncle (who has alzheimers to the Good Friday service at the Baptist Church he has attended for over 50 years.

He was a deacon for years and now is a Life Deacon

It just shows his sweetness that
when others show what is under the surface ..when they have no control over what they are saying..
he apolgises for being a problem and asks how others are!

So today we took him to church...

He hardly recognises me or his daughter but asks if we are OK.

Others there (who had worked for him when he was manager of a national company)
came up to say hallo...
but he didn't know them!

In the service there was the Lord's prayer
He joined in loudly and with confidence.

When they sang 'Blessed Assurance'
he joined in and sang without reading the words!

At the end they sang 'The Old Rugged Cross'
again he, who remembers a little and knows only a few..

Sang the words... (in fact he turned around and spoke them to me 'with feeling' before we even sang them)
...strongly and with great feeling!

I WAS IN TEARS!

A man many would look at with pity (some with scorn)
as he stumbled along on his walker....
asking..where he was ...in the chapel he had always attended....

yet

his deep love and abiding passion
shone through

Thank you Les!!

  1. So very nice of you to visit my blog and I am following you also now.
This post really tugs at my heart. My father was a deacon in the Baptist church for 40 years and was named Deacon Emeritus before his death. Just like with your dear Les, Daddy forgot most everything, but always remembered Bible verses, hymns, and how to pray.
What a blessing for you two to have taken him to the service. We never know what reaches into the depths of someone's mind/understanding who on the outside seems not to notice. Bless you!

  3. So nice of you to take your uncle to church.
Reminds me of the Book: THE VOW
She lost her memory of her husband,
BUT not of Jesus being her Saviour and Lord.

  4. I think that what God means when He says "I will never leave you or forsake you" God's promises are true...outlasting time and our own memories. How Awesome is that!! It would've moved me to tears too!
Thanks for sharing your story. My Redeemer lives!
    Happy Easter!

  6. Hi there, What a wonderful post! My mother-in-law has the same disease but doesn't know us any more-it is such a shame. I loved hearing that your uncle remember prayers and hymns, what joy in that. Easter blessings to you my friend.
