It was the last day of June and we decided to spend and afternoon at Picton Castle
It was a miserable afternoon
and threatened rain.
To my mind the best time to visit is May
when the Azaleas etc are blooming but we did see the occassional azalea and this lovely white Rhodo
We walked through the gardens
to the Walled Garden.
This has really been changed and replanted
but I still really enjoy visiting it...
trouble is, that with the poor weather this year, the plants don't seem to have grown so well!
The dogs looked pretty fed up.......
whilst their owners examined the plants!!
These are some of the medicinal herbs with plaques
declaring what they can heal
I thought that this rose was just lovely!!
Perhaps this should be
for Beverley
as well for her.......Special Birthday!!
This pink rose is for Beverly for her Pink Saturday
We decided that the Fernery was a must!
Isn't this a lovely tree?
Just made for climbing on...so we did!!
We headed back towards the castle
and took one look backwards towards....
the Walled Garden
and then into the courtyard for.....
a drink and an icecream!!
I so enjoy the gardens at great houses. This one looks lovely. Thanks for sharing it.

How I would LOVE to visit your part of the world! Absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely, what a wonderful day trip. The fernery looks interesting . . . I'd climb that tree too . . .
ReplyDeleteThe gardens looks lovely to me . . . but I'm sure that you know the time of year when they are at their prime. We live in a desert area, so to me green is lovely. I love flowers, but just green, on green, on green can be simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Connie :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely; thanks for sharing it with us! I like how green the gardens were and that pets could accompany you with your adventures? That was a nice touch I do believe!

Wow- That place is just gorgeous. What a beautiful tour. I am surprised to see the dogs there. They must allow them on the grounds? Here you can't take dogs anywhere on public grounds- xo Diana

ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous gardens!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Sweet Friend...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking me along on this tour of the castle. What a beautiful and enchanting place. I loved touring the grounds, and the tree is so gorgeous. What a beautiful place to take pictures.
How wonderful that they mark the plants (medicinal purposes) so that people know what is planted there. I need to do a better job of marking my plants (just so DH remembers what each is.)
A beautiful share, loved the rainy skies. Wish we had a little rain here in the desert.
Have a glorious weekend. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

ReplyDeleteI am so thrilled to have this castle garden tour...were you able to actually go inside the castle? My husband and I would LOVE to visit the British Isles someday and do the castle tours. Of course we are here in Florida...and it will be a long time before we can do that...so I appreciate this little glimpse of your world today!
