Mum's Clock

I was unpacking
some boxes that I had packed
for our move to this farm 16 years ago
and had not,
for a variety of reasons, unpacked since.... when I came across.......

.........this clock.

I remember seeing it first
when I came as a new bride to hubbie's family farm.

I liked it when I saw it
and, although it didn't work,
I used it as an ornament.

I had wondered where it was
and thought that I had left it at the home farm
until I found it last week

Hubby was so pleased to see it
and we shared many remembrances
of where it used to be in his mother's day.

He even tried his mother's old way of
getting it to work but, alas,
it only went for 3 hours before stopping!

I love the roses on it
and so shall continue to use it
as an ornament!

I intended to write a post about it last week
but ended up in hospital last Friday
while they tried to sort out my pain meds and also tried a procedure to help.

I only returned home yesterday afternoon.

When I looked outside this morning
it was to see that my favourite
Albertine Rose
had started to flower.

I decided
that it had to be in the picture as well

Now its scent is filling the house!!

  3. The clock is beautiful, and your rose beside it is just as stunning. I am sorry to hear about the hospital. I had known you have some problem from an accident by reading your profile, but that is all I know.I hope you are not very ill and can get around? Are you in pain? I deal with quite a bit of pain, so I know what that is like. I hope this hospital visit will have you feeling much better.

  12. Well, first off- I am so sorry to hear that you were hospitalized. Are you okay now? What kind of meds are you on (if you feel like sharing). Working in a hospital for so many years makes me curious, of course.

I love that old clock and you know the old saying- even a broken clock is right twice a day!;>) xo Diana

  13. Dear Joan, I've been wondering where you've been and now I know. I'm sorry you were in the hospital but hopefully they got your med's all worked out. Life can be so tough as we get older.
I love your clock too-it is so delicate and feminine. I have a clock my parents got as a wedding present that is broken but it sits on my dining room buffet, just for the memories. Love you rose.
    Sending hugs your way today.

  20. Hope they found a solution for your medication.
The clock is lovely and probably works for a few hours and then rests... just as in life hoping for time to stand still so we may smell the roses and enjoy Nature's beauty.
    Have a great weekend.

  21. I hope you're feeling better, Joan. Pain meds are a blessing but can also be the cause of many problems!

I'd love to know how your husband's mother got the clock to work. It is beautiful.
