Cats Sleep Anywhere

A couple of months ago
when I was reading Meredith's blog

I noticed her cat sleeping on the bookcase and looking like a bookend!
It reminded me of a poem that my younger daughter learnt at school.

Cats Sleep Anywhere
(Eleanor Farjeon 1881 - 1965)

Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair
Top of piano, window ledge, in the middle, on the edge
Open draw, empty shoe, anybody's lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere! They don't care!   Cats sleep anywhere.

Since then
I have had my other daughter's cat,
as a lodger, while they were in a rented home

See my earlier post

I knew virtually nothing about cats
Yes we did have feral cats on the farm but
a cat in the house.....
Let's say
she was getting me trained nicely
when she left at the beginning of December
and I do miss her!

She determined where she would sleep

and I followed behind her...
and moved her bedding accordingly

She had liked to sleep behind the farm overalls
(can you see her blanket on the right?)

But, once the boiler was lit
that is where it had to be..... so our towels
could no longer dry there!

If I went to sit in the garden room
she would sit on the window sill outside
looking sorrowful
until I could stand it no more and let her in!

and then she would sit on the back of my chair
tapping my shoulder with her paw
and nudging me with her head

So...yes I miss her
but
I'm telling my family please don't think
to buy me another
I don't think I could take more training!!

I am feeling a little better
and so have picked up the crochet that I started, while I was feeling so ill,
before I was admitted to hospital

It's the Ripple pattern
found at Lucy's Blog Attic24 Neat Ripple Pattern

I have read others say that it's very relaxing
if you need something gentle to do
and I must say that
I'm enjoying it

Before I went into hospital
I was offered a recliner chair.....
and by the time I came home it had been installed
and my lamp beside it
It is just so cosy and exactly what I needed!

I know it's a bit late but I would like to wish you all
a Happy, and Healthy New Year!!

  5. Good Morning Joan,
I loved your thoughts about your daughters visiting cat. Happy you enjoyed your visitor. I imagine he was keeping a good watch over you. I also like visualizing you sitting in that comfortable chair, crocheting . . . Very nice to think of you home and feeling better.

A card is written and will be mailed soon . . . I have stopped at the small post office, two times in the past few days, finding them closed. So disgruntled I was, they keep changing their opened hours. I will be near the main PO tomorrow and will get it in the mail.

    Loved seeing your post . . .
    Be well my friend,
    Love, Lynne

  6. Your kitty vistor is so amazing! I have forgotten what type of cat she was, but after i saw her before, I actually thought of looking at some of these kittens. Just gorgeous, and also, if I recall, very pricey. What type was she again. I am so sorry that you were in the hospital and hope that you are very much better and that you have a wonderful room. looks like a great chair that you have gotten! ENJOY

  7. Ha-ha! Yes, cats can and will sleep just about anywhere. Sometimes we can't even find Jingles. That is a very unique kitty your daughter has -- I've never seen markings like that before on a house cat. Glad to see you are crocheting and have a cozy spot for doing so. Wishing you continued improvement on the health front. Best wishes and blessings, Tammy

  8. I think you just might need a cat. How about an older one from a rescue? They need homes, you need love and they are a constant means of entertainment. Not so much training either if they are older. I am in love with your ripple and I am planning on starting one myself very soon. I just bought the yarn and have a few other things to finish first before I dive in. So, so glad you are feeling better, rest, recline in that beautiful chair and crochet.
    Hugs to you,
    Meredith

  12. How good to hear your are feeling better. Your cozy corner looks perfect! We have always had cats. I have some amusing photos from over the years of cans asleep in boxes, large dough bowls, our horse's manger and other places. Your cats are (were) gorgeous! I used to crochet but gave it up as mu gauge was not consistent...I prefer cross stitch! Love the colors of your afghan! Happy New Year to you!

  17. Hallo Joan. Have I already wished you a happy and healthy new year. I think I have, but I do anyway, just in case I hadn't said it before! That chair looks lovely and cosy, especially with the lamp for when you do your crochet or perhaps some reading. If you feel up to doing a little something, that must be a good thing. Lovely photo of you and the little cat by your shoulder. Take care and I hope you continue to feel a little better with each passing day.

  18. Joan, it's so good to see you posting today! Yes, cats definitely have their own agenda.:-) Usually not one that correlates with yours.:-)

I am glad you are feeling stronger. Take care of yourself, and follow doctor's orders.

  19. How nice to hear you sounding more like your old self, Joan. I am really glad you are back to crocheting and just feeling better overall.
We had kitties for many years and I do miss them but knowing we are going to sell soon means that we won't get another one.....maybe someday.

Blessings and GOOD HEALTH to you in 2013! xo Diana

  20. Such a sweet post, Joan, about your daughter's kitty. A very unusually marked cat, too! I do love cats and have always had them, each with their own personality. The poem is perfect, I must write that down as it describes their habits so well. I do love your crocheting - the colors are heavenly and your chair looks so very comfortable. I am so glad you are feeling better! Blessings to you in 2013! xx

  21. Welcome Home, Joan!!! I am just catching up on your news and am so glad to read that you are healing at home :)

Your experiences with kitties are much the same as mine. I also currently am not wanting to have another kitty train me, and I really enjoyed your story in photos and words :)

Thanks for visiting my blog, and I am sorry I have been pokey answering your question about the pattern for my pot holder. I just used the pattern I saw on the outside of the kit box, but because it was just partially made I added my own ideas to finish it. I bought the kit from www.harrisville.com.

I love the colors you have chosen for your new afghan! And your recliner looks like a perfect nest for some cozy healing stitching.

May you have a healthy happy new year.
    xx from Gracie

  24. Hello Joan and good to know that you are getting better. I am so pleased. your recliner looks very comfy. I do love the colours you are using for your ripple blanket. I follow Lucy's blog and have had a little practice at creating the ripple effect - maybe one day I might start one. At the moment I am trying to finish other things I have started and left undone. (I am also trying hard not to try and do too much. Before Christmas I ignored health warnings and ended up with a chest infection that caused a visit to A&E query pneumonia. I was nowhere near as poorly as you and it was nipped in the bud and I didn't have to stay in. However it taught me a valuable lesson.)
DH and I had a cat when we were first married. When our first son came along she moved out to my neighbour. This lady used to take care of her when we were away.I think my cat was most put out when she no longer had my full attention :-)
Happy New Year and do take care. Anne x

  26. I'm pleased you are home and starting to feel more like your old self.
I look forward to seeing the blanket finished, it is very pretty.
I am a dog person, we had them when I was growing up and I have only had cats since being married - they seem to be the pet of choice for the entire family. We had a lab/spaniel cross for 15 years but decided against another dog once the kids grew up.
    Happy New Year.

  29. Hello Joan! I'm sorry to hear you were under the weather, but glad you are recovering! The chair looks like a welcome, cozy spot. I am a cat fan and you daughter's tabby is gorgeous..and by the sound of it, has a sweet temperament to go along! How cute that he tapped you on the shoulder. I like the colors you've chosen to crochet- serene. Happy 2013~

  30. Hi Joan,
I am so happy to see you post and what a lovely chair in your own corner .Plus the cat.

I love when they are kittens but I am not a cat person once they grow up. I had when I was a kid a kitten and grew up with her. Then when she died and I got married and then had children and when they got toan age to look after a animal they asked for a puppy. I fell in love with dogs.

Not all kinds but most kinds. This cat of your daughters is pretty . So happy to see you up doing your talking and posting.

    Bless you Joan.

  31. Hey Joan, so glad you are home and feeling well enough to do some crochet. That recliner looks very comfy, perfect spot for some yarn and hook play.
I have 2 cats and i think they make a house a home, can't beat a purring cat on the couch in Winter and they are great company when hubby and son are away.
The little snippet of your garden through the window, is lovely and green, things are pretty brown here, with Summer and the high temps.
Your blanket looks great Joan, gorgeous colours, must have another go at a ripple pattern and see if I can get the hang of it.
Stay well and have a wonderful 2013

  34. I'm sorry you don't have your kitty anymore, but I can undersdtand not replacing her...so much work in training the new pet! We too lost our pug 2 1/2 years ago and haven't replaced him. Beautiful pictures, so much fun they are, but lots of work too.Your new chair is great, nice to cuddle up there with your lamp and a good book. I'm so happy you are feeling better. May you have a happy and healthy new year.

  35. That is a very beautiful cat, and she looks as though she knows it. :)

Your garden room looks delightful - all sunny and full of light. And that chair must be supremely comfortable. So glad you're home and feeling better. Enjoy your peaceful crochet - what a pretty blanket it will be. And isn't it nice that it keeps your lap warm while you work on it?

  38. Oh my friend, so happy that you are feeling better. Cats do sleep anywhere. They especially love a sunny spot. I've never had an indoor cat but we once had two outdoor ones. They would come to the door every morning and come in just for a visit. Then they were happy to be out in the garden. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
