Ffald y Brenin

Last week
I asked some friends if they would take me
to a very special place

Ffald y Brenin
(which means Sheepfold of the King.)

This is a retreat centre
that came into being over 20 years ago

It's founders believed that an old farmhouse
and buildings

situated on the top of the Preseli Hills

should be converted
to a Christian Retreat Centre

Years of hard work
has made it the most wonderful place to be...
...whether for one day or more!

I walked out nearly to the cross
and looked back at the centre through the trees
I just love all the curves and shapes!

The views from the windows are incredible!

The circular building at the top
is the Chapel.

There was a large rock
in the way of the building work...
it was found to actually be....
a part of the mountain

So they built the Chapel
around it!

Just a few photos of the front

This is the entrance
and look who is coming in!

Thank you to all who wrote such wonderful and encouraging comments on my last blog.

It really helped!!
What supportive friends you all are.

I hope to reply to each one individually but it may take me a while!
I value your comments!

  14. This is a place where I could be:
myself;thinking of the important things, giving thanks, and settling my mind. It looks to be a quiet place! Thank you for sharing and for these glimpses.

Dear Joan, I didn't comment on your last post although I have read it. At the time of reading I found similarities in it that coincide with my own life. Its hard to see your life partner suffer....to change before your eyes....its hard to accept changes and see ones life work dwindle before your eyes. In my opinion the hardest is to accept that no one is in the wrong just that they hold different perspectives.
I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain. It would also scare me if I had to take morphine due to its addictive properties but you can't live in constant pain......there must be some quality of life.

    Take care now

  18. Joan,
How beautiful this is! Such a respite it would be for the soul to spend time here. I am amazed at the beauty of the stone and what toil of labor it must have taken to move, construct, create such inspiration.

And there you are, walking to the chapel, looking beautiful and happy. Dear friend you have to enjoy such beauty! I love your wrap . . .
    Love, Lynne

  27. This is my first visit with you, and I LOVED seeing this wonderful place in Wales. In fact, when you said Preseli I realized this amazing Christian retreat is built where the bluestones came from for Stonehenge, and that thrilled my heart because I adore anything Stonehenge-related! :-) But, the views are magnificent, and the retreat could not be in a more wonderful place. And, truly the Chapel is built upon the Rock (I am sure in more ways than one!) :-) God bless you and yours...I hope to visit with you again!
