This morning

I woke this morning to a glorious
Sunrise
From the windows of my hospital ward

I took a couple of, I think, unusual photos but wasn't able to download them
From my iPad
I look forward to showing them after I return home!

From here I can see the queues of panicking shoppers trying to get everything done before
The Big Day!

Cars queuing in
And cars queuing out.........

It seems so strange to be sitting , as it were, as an onlooker
Seeing but not a part of it all!

Down there there are battles being fought for parking spaces...
Getting the last minute presents
And food

Up here .... In my ward .....there is a battle for life being played out .....
Not mine but another dear old lady!
Reaching for each new breath...............

And surrounded by her family

Puts things in perspective
Doesn't it?

At home are all the half done 'things'
That I had been planning to accomplish this week.......
There's no point in my fretting

They say I'll be in here quite a while longer
So I just have to let it all go

As a friend emailed me
" at least you have to rest now!"

So...thanks for all your caring thoughts and prayers
I so appreciate each one

And please....please in this Season of Joy
Think of those who are suffering
And say a prayer for Barbara

As she walks .........

  1. Oh no Joan!!! I am here to catch up, and see that you are in hospital! What happened? You say chest infection? Do you mean pneumonia or something like that? Gosh, I am so sorry to hear this. Do take good care my friend. I shall keep you in my prayers.

  3. I wouldn't want to be in the hospital, but I really, really dislike shopping, especially this time of year.

  6. Please rest and get well soon! Let everyone else rush and fret, relax and let it all go by. Your health is the most important thing. It is funny to see all the hustle and bustle from a window! So sad for your dear room mate. Thinking of you and all those who are spending the holidays in similar circumstances. Saying a prayer. Hugs to you. xx

  7. Joan, I'm so sorry you are not well. I haven't visited for awhile so hope you are doing better. It is not a fun place to be but if it means you will get better by staying there, then that's a good place for you to be. Our thoughts are all with you..Feel better soon..Judy

  8. Thanks for sharing the photo of your lovely flower, Joan. We have not had much freezing weather near the base of Mr. Hood in Oregon, but I was startled to see a lone red hollyhock bloom in our front garden...a brave blossom in the midst of the snow showers we had this morning. I am praying that you will be filled with peace that will help your body rest and be restored soon to good health. xx from Gracie

  9. Hello Joan,
How right you are that does put it all into perspective! I'm glad you understand you mustn't fret....the less stress the more chance you'll be out of hospital very soon and indeed I hope you will. My thoughts have gone to the dear lady in the bed beside you and I can but wish that she manages to win her fight.
Sending my most positive vibes across the channel to you Joan hoping you'll get well very soon.

    Amanda :-)

  12. The cycle of life continues despite the seasons changing and what people are thinking! I pray that Barbara will be at peace with her Maker whatever the outcome of her time there. I pray also, that you will recover quickly and enjoy a healthy and joyful year to come. I hope they have some Christmas merriment there for you all and that you will be able to spread that optimistic attitude you have to the rest of the ward!

  15. Oh Joan, I missed your last post - so sorry to hear you're back in hospital. I do hope you'll have a good recovery and be able to enjoy the enforced downtime as much as possible!

It's so hard not to stress out at Christmastime - I don't think this is at all what God had in mind when He sent His Son to be born here. :)

May your Christmas be peaceful and as joyful as possible. Saying a prayer for Barbara and for you. God bless you both.

  16. Well, Joan, it appears that I am behind the times here. Not unusual for me, though. I hadn't known that you were back in the hospital. I'm sending wishes for a speedy recovery quickly "across the pond" from the hills of East Tennessee!
    Hugs, Nellie

  20. I've just arrived here from Mr Micawber's Recipe for happiness where I was trying (and failing) to get her ribbonberry-crochet to work for me (sadly my version looks more like a knobbly tree trunk but I will persevere). I was attracted by the name of your blog in her blogroll because Pembrokeshire holds a very special place in my family's hearts. My grand parents retired to Tenby and my parents, my brothers and sister and now our children have spent many, many, happy holidays on the beautiful Pembrokshire coast and in the countryside. I've only just started reading back through your blog and already the photos of rainbows and cliffs are bringing back wonderful memories, thank you.

Like you I am having to take a step back and watch others rushing around getting ready for Christmas. Three weeks ago I sneezed and slipped a disc. I can now hobble around a bit on crutches but I spend most of my time, kneeling, crocheting, surfing the internet and listening to the radio.

So I just wanted to comment, to say thank you for your blog, for the happy memories you have stirred in me, for the link to a rather nice cowl pattern which might be easier than Mrs Micawber's, and to send you best wishes for a speedy recovery from Geneva - which though beautiful in many ways is a VERY long way from the sea. Bon Courage - Jill

  23. Oh Joan, This makes me feel like crying- thinking of you having to stay in the hospital this time of year...and watching all the joys of Christmas outside your window and listening to your roommate struggle for breath. God bless you- I hope you can go home soon. And, the truth is, what gets done-gets done and what doesn't get done doesn't matter anyway- xo Diana

  24. Sorry Joan that your are in the hospital . . . keep resting, get well and be home soon.
Have you used the Blogpress App? I use it sometimes instead of my lap top.

Continue to rest . . . I wish I was close by to visit you!

  25. Hello Joan. So sorry that you have to be in hospital. I hope that you make a good recovery. We fret so much about things when at the end of the day most of them don't really matter. when I heard about the children and adults who had been shot in America it put a lot of what I was worrying about into perspective. My mum is unwell and have been urging her to stay in and get better and not worry about shopping and tidying up until she is better. I will remember you and Barbara in my prayers and my mum of course. Take care. Anne x

    Hugs,
    Jann
